Raising a glass to 20 years of Arran Brewery

- by Colin Smeeton editor@arranbanner.co.uk

The Arran Brewery is celebrating two decades of brewing on Arran since it was opened in February 2000 by Richard and Elizabeth Roberts, as covered in the Banner’s 20 years ago page last week.

To mark the anniversary, the brewery will be holding a number of monthly events throughout the year, including a free brewery tour and beer tasting.

Current Arran Brewery managing director Gerald Michaluk, who took over the business 12 years ago, said: ‘The first event celebrating this milestone is an invitation for Arran Banner readers to come along with a friend and have a free tour and tasting between now and Tuesday March 31.

‘It must be said the brewery in Cladach near Brodick may have been founded 20 years ago but there has been brewing on Arran for 3,500 years at least. The earliest example of any ale found in Scotland was found at Machrie moor where analysis of shards of pottery revealed the remnants of an early ale.

‘Our claims to fame are winning the World Beer Awards title of World’s Best Dark Brown Ale for Arran Dark in 2012 and Arran Blonde, our beer with the highest number of awards, winning Europe’s best in class in 2010.

‘To taste the beer you have to be over 18 years old but we do have a range of temperance drinks for younger folk to try instead of beer. I hope to see you soon and we can raise a toast to the next 20 years of brewing on Arran.’

To take advantage of this offer all you have to do is take along to the brewery an original cutting of this article which will be valid for a free tour and tasting for you and a friend between now until Tuesday March 31.

Tours are available by appointment or to drop into on Monday, Friday and Saturday at 2pm in February and daily at 2pm in March.
