Facemasks for Arran winds up operations
Facemasks for Arran is winding up its operations after producing more than 1,500 free masks for distribution on the island.
With facemasks now more widely available to buy, the sewing group is finishing up the masks it has in progress and is no longer taking requests for masks. The online request form has also been closed.
Organiser Barb Taub said that since facemasks could now be ordered for quick delivery, the group didn’t feel its work is so urgent.
‘Our goal has always been to put ourselves out of business and we think that time has come. We have had a wonderful time making these masks. Our team of volunteers has given selflessly of their time, creativity, energy and expertise. I and all of Arran owe them a huge debt and heartfelt thank you,’ Barb added.
The remaining masks have been divided between Book & Card in Brodick, Bay Stores in Whiting Bay and the Harbour Shop in Blackwaterfoot. They will be free while supplies last.
Also, if anyone wants a 10-mask kit – fabric, nosebridge wire and links to downloadable pattern and directions – they can email barbtaub@gmail.com. Still no charge while supplies last, but they might have to provide their own nose-bridge shaping wire if they run out of current supplies. Facemasks are also being made by well-known Arran artist Angela ElliottWalker and other Arran volunteers with all profits going to the Arran Trust: https://angela-elliott-walker.co.uk/artwork-shop/ Facemasks-c50678732
