Saving water on Arran? Really?

Encouraging householders to save water

-

Did you know that Scottish Water has teamed up with Home Energy Scotland and Arran Eco Savvy to offer householders on Arran free water saving packs?

It is important to save water

Although it rains a lot in Scotland, less than 1% of the rainfall ends up somewhere Scottish Water has access to. In addition, around a fifth of the average household heating bill is spent heating water in the home. So, saving water can help save energy and money too!

Free online water efficiency workshops

Home Energy Scotland and Arran Eco Savvy are running free online workshops this July, where you can pick up some great tips to help you save water, energy and money at home. They will also be talking about the range of free water-saving devices you can order for your home; and the big difference they can make.

Joan Brockie, of Home Energy Scotland says: “Our water workshops are a great way to find out more about where your water comes from, how it gets used and how you can help to reduce your own usage. We’ll have hosts from Home Energy Scotland and Arran Eco Savvy to take your questions and give you lots of great water-saving tips and ideas” Take part in one of the sessions on either Thursday 16 July or Thursday 23 July (7.30pm – 8.30pm).

Rachel Elliott, Water Efficiency Planner at Scottish Water, explains: “Rainwater is full of nutrients which help garden plants to thrive! A water butt can be connected to your downpipe, collecting the rainwater from your roof rather than letting it go down the drain. A small roof collects 45,000 litres of water each year and a large roof can collect over 90,000 litres – that’s plenty to keep your water butt topped up.” Check out Facebook Arran Eco Savvy page - facebook. com/arranecosavvy/ - to enter.
