Helping you walk round Whiting Bay
A new walking map has been produced to help visitors to Whiting Bay, writes Hugh Boag.
It is based on a popular leaflet/map produced some years ago in conjunction with Whiting Bay businesses. Although the network of pathways has not radically altered, it was out of date as businesses have changed over the years.
The free Walk Your Way Round Whiting Bay leaflet gives details of the beautiful circular walks which can be taken in the village and the surrounding area.
Visitors who explore the pathways and rights of way frequently ask directions or miss a turning but want to use acknowledged routes to explore the countryside and access the magnificent vistas out to sea from above the village
The proposal to update the previous tourist information map stemmed from the Whiting Bay Memories weekend in May 2019. Whiting Bay and Districts Improvements Association members agreed to take the proposal forward and have received match funding from the Arran Trust.
The map was designed by local graphic designer Simon Ross-Gill who grew up in Whiting Bay and is himself an avid walker.
Simon said: ‘I was delighted to collaborate with WBDIA on this project to encourage more people to explore the village on foot.’
Association secretary Eric Kay said: ‘We are very proud of the quality of this new leaflet which was printed by Arran Graphics. It is clearer, brighter and easier to use than its predecessor.’
The new leaflet will be distributed by shops in Whiting Bay and will also be available from the tourist desk on the MV Caledonian Isles and at Arran Tourist office, when it reopens.
