The Arran Banner

Remarkable work

-

Life went back to a fair bit like normal for many people when the schools returned this week.

And with shops, bars, restaurants, and hotels all open, and tourists returned to our holiday island in droves, as well as the sun shining, everything just seems that little bit brighter.

But make no mistake Arran has a long and difficult road to recovery yet.

So it is heartening to know that a group of forward-looking individuals, who are collectively the Arran Recovery Group, have just produced their latest blueprint to get the Arran economy not just back on track but booming again.

For some bedtime reading – and Arran Recovery and Beyond draft report is on their website should you wish to do the same – I read all 68 pages and it outlines clearly what they believe Arran needs to do now, next year, and in the months and years ahead.

It is a remarkable work and while the whole group was involved in creating the plan, some folks did a little more than others. And while they may not be seeking special recognition, we think Jude King, Sheila Gilmour, Ruth Betley, and Vicki Yuill deserve a special mention anyway. Not to mention Tom Tracey, who as chairman has the difficult job of juggling the triple priorities of the group – community, environment, and economy.

There is no magic wand, but with the careful cohesive and forward-looking planning, borne out of an ongoing commitment of consultation with the people of Arran, we are certain the island has a bright future to look forward to again.
