Arran’s new digital radio station hits the airwaves on Sunday

- By Hugh Boag editor@arranbanner.co.uk

Arran’s new digital radio will broadcast for the first time on Sunday.

At 2pm you will be able to tune in to arransound.com, and they thought you might like to meet a few of the Arran Sound volunteers.

Some have been recording The Banner for many years and now are working hard to get your Arran community radio off the ground – they are Kate, Jerry, Chris, Val, Andrew, Amanda, Paul, Fiona, Chris, Mhairi and Sandy.

Chairwoman Mhairi Smeir said: ‘We are all delighted that on Sunday December 20 we will launch a little preview of just some of the programmes we will be broadcasting for you in the coming weeks and months. Many members of the community have contributed a wide variety of interesting and fun articles for the station, however we need your ideas, information and comments on island life, your involvement, no matter how small, all our voices reflecting island life and everyone’s news and views.

‘We are looking for presenters, so if you fancy yourself as a budding DJ or a great story teller please get in touch. This year has seen all our normal community events cancelled due to the Covid-19 restrictions, however we hope with your help to broadcast the interesting and innovative ways that folk have found to keep community interests alive, and there are many. In 2021 we plan to report on festivals, fetes, choirs, plays, competitions, school events, sports, coffee mornings, wine evenings, book launches, the farmers show and the Highland games. We will watch our children and grandchildren sing and play instruments again with their friends.

‘arransound.com will be bringing you that news, but, in the meantime, we have some very special events over the Christmas holidays.

‘We hope you will be patient with us as we learn, please come and join us, help build Arran’s community radio and have some fun. You can contribute from your own home computer, email or Zoom, send a voice message or simply speak to us.

‘And don’t forget to get your Christmas or village message to us as soon as possible, we are waiting to hear from you at www.arransound.com, where full details can be found as to how to get in touch.’
