First branch of new Alba Party on Arran

-

The first branch of Alex Salmond’s Alba Party has been formed on Arran.

They held their inaugural meeting on Tuesday April 6, the day of the Alba Party campaign launch for the Scottish parliamentary elections. Campbell Laing is the first branch convener.

Councillor Ellen McMaster, who represents Ardrossan and Arran on North Ayrshire Council, is standing for the Alba Party in the West Scotland regional list, after leaving the SNP.

She has welcomed the launch of the Alba Party’s women and equalities policy statement as ‘ground breaking’ following a women’s conference attended by 400 women from across Scotland on Saturday April 10.

In a statement, Councillor McMaster said: ‘Not only am I proud to be standing for Alba as a candidate but I am delighted to be one of Alba’s 18 women candidates out of a total of 32 candidates standing across Scotland. As well as standing for independence, Alba stands for equality for all.’

The other parties standing in the West Scotland region are (alphabetically): Abolish the Scottish Parliament, All for Unity, Freedom Alliance, Independent Green Voice, Reform UK, Scotia Future, Scottish Conservatives, Scottish Family, Scottish Greens, Scottish Labour, Scottish Liberal Democrats, Scottish Libertarian, Scottish National Party, Scottish Renew, Scottish Trade Unionist and Socialist Coalition, UKIP and two individual regional candidates.
