Shiskine Golf Club

Saturday September 11, mixed greensomes and 125th birthday celebratio­n.

Shiskine Golf and Tennis Club celebrated its 125th birthday with a fun golf competitio­n followed by a wonderful barbecue and buffet at the Tee Room in the clubhouse.

It was also a celebratio­n of the first big social occasion allowed since March 2020 and the official trophies and prizes for the last two years were presented.

A total of 54 members took part in the mixed greensomes and the winners were Lynda Howie and Gary Campbell with a wonderful score of 35.5.

There were also fun prizes at every hole. Prosecco and cake was enjoyed by more than 70 members and retiring Captain Fiona Henderson handed over to new Captain Andy Gray.

Thursday September 16, Stableford and delayed annual dinner.

A total of 15 ladies played in the afternoon. The winner was Alice Anderson with 27 points and Ann May and Ruth Hardy sharing second place with 23 points.

Alice Anderson won nearest the pin at the 10th and Sheila Gray won nearest the pin at the fourth with a cracking shot only about a foot from the pin.

The meal followed in the evening, with Pimm’s beforehand, being served by Lady Convenor Jerry Arthur.

A beautiful menu was enjoyed and more ladies joined the party who could not golf during the day. The prizes were awarded for the golf.

However the coveted Blue Bag, which had not seen the light of day for more than 24 months was handed over to Julia Salton, who has recently moved back to Arran and is enjoying regular golf at her old club again.

Sunday September 19, gents’ 18-hole medal: 1 W McNally 81-15=66, 2 and scratch C Dair 79-11=68 BIH, 3 C Rutterford 89-21=68.

Whiting Bay Golf Club

Wednesday September 15, Summer Trophy, 15 played: 1 Stan Rainey 9, 62; 2 David Morrison 9, 63; 3 Jamie Macpherson 4, 64; and lowest gross; 4 Duncan Heenan 12, 65. magic twos, Stan Rainey @4th. Congratula­tions to Jamie Macpherson, overall winner of the 2021 Summer Trophy.

Sunday September 19, The Taylor Trophy Greensome.

Another competitio­n unable to be played last year, the Taylor dates from 1890 although played for at Whiting Bay only since 1976 when it was donated to the club by the family of its first winner, Dugald McKelvie.

Fitting then that on its re-introducti­on, one of the oldest trophies was won by the oldest pairing in the field with John Pennycott and David Brookens pipping Stuart McGregor and Gus MacLeod on a last nine countback.

Lamlash Golf Club

Thursday September 16, Loudoun away day.

A total of 14 ladies enjoyed a fantastic day away at Loudoun Golf Club. The weather was warm and sunny, the course was in great condition and the hospitalit­y and food excellent.

The winner was one of the newest members, Fiona Carswell, with 39 points. Second was captain Alison Heron with 35 points and third was June Richardson with 34 points.

The team event was won by Val Crawford, Yvonne Brothers and Alison Heron with a total of 46 points. Well organised Alison said: ‘We are already looking forward to next year’s outing.’

Wednesday September 15, Stroke 6: 1 Alison Heron 92-25=67; 2 Jenny Pattenden 105-34=71. Scratch Sheena Murchie 87.

Thursday September 16, Captain’s Prize and Summer Cup: 1 Paul Cowan 64-4=60; 2 Graeme Andrew 73-11=62; 3 Paul Jameson 74-10=64 BIH, 4 Jack McNally 69-5=64. Best scratch Paul Cowan - 64. Magic twos Paul Cowan and Ian Bremner both @16th.

Hole 12 drawn - rollover. Winner of Captain’s Prize Paul Cowan - net 60.
