Rome was not built in a day and Expo will not be pulled off alone; Expo 2020 Dubai’s premier partners show us what is possible through collaboration.

DP WORLD being the Premier Global Trade Partner of Expo 2020 means everything related to Expo is flowing into Dubai through our globe-spanning logistics network. This includes the utilization of all our ports and terminals, free zones, and maritime services. The Al Wasl dome, which will be the centerpiece of the Expo 2020 site, is a good example of the role we are playing in making Expo happen. Weighing 2,265 tons with an enclosed space of 724,000 cubic meters, the sections of the Dome entered Dubai thanks to Jebel Ali Port’s outstanding cargo handling capabilities. Expo 2020 is a unique experience for us. We are often at major events, but the key difference here is one of scale. The Expo site will be the size of a small city, and the event will last for six months. The objective of DP World’s Expo 2020 pavilion is to open the eyes of visitors to the world of logistics and supply chains. Most people rarely consider what it takes to bring to them from far off places everything that is around them in their daily lives. Through the use of cutting-edge technologies including augmented and virtual reality, visitors to our pavilion will be able to see the real-time movement of cargo across the world and learn how global trade happens and its impact on every aspect of everyone’s life every day. Trade is an area that, despite its importance, is not understood very well by the general public and we hope to change that.

DUBAI IS EMIRATES’ HOME and hub, and as an airline we have played an important part in Dubai’s transformation into a globally connected city with the capacity to host a truly international event like Expo 2020. The airline was an early supporter of Dubai’s successful bid to host the Expo, and partnering with Expo 2020 as Official Airline and Premier Partner was a natural next step to help bring this event to life in Dubai, and to build a lasting legacy for the UAE and the entire region. Emirates is supporting Expo 2020 by helping to attract visitors from key global markets through marketing and other outreach efforts across our network. Of over 190 countries that have confirmed their participation in Expo 2020, Emirates will help facilitate and offer connectivity with direct flights to 67 of them, and that number grows to over 80 countries with our partner flydubai. Emirates is also working closely with Expo 2020 on a number of initiatives to help boost awareness of the event globally, including global campaign support through different Emirates channels, on-going in-flight content support, familiarisation trips, internal awareness campaigns, Emirates commercial product support, branding at different airport touch points for Emirates customers in Dubai, amongst other activities. We also unveiled the design and theme of our Expo 2020 Dubai pavilion and visitor experience, which is focused around the future of commercial aviation.

FOR US it is just an immense pleasure to be a partner with Expo along this journey. Connecting people and connecting minds are important facets of how we bring the world closer together. SAP is the foundation through which the Expo experience is delivered. Expo has decided to really consolidate on SAP solutions to manage that personal experience, from entering the site, through all the touch points, and exiting Expo, providing a seamless and personal journey. A major part of this is taking care of people of determination and optimizing their experiences. We are looking to build an application with a young start-up for a solution using SAP technology that will make the experience world class and a first ever for people of determination. For example, given mobility is a subtheme of Expo, visitors with limited mobility should be able to reach all four corners of the Expo site. Leaving a legacy is important. It will leave a lasting impression that will pivot the perception of Dubai is and the UAE more broadly. Expo will make Dubai a more attractive destination for high performing individuals who have stars in their eyes in terms of developing new businesses, new industries, and new capabilities; they will bring these ambitions to Dubai. That is really the end game in terms of where we want to go but also use it as a benchmark to showcase the full potential of what made in the Middle East is and what the Middle East could be beyond oil and gas.
