WOMEN SAW PERVERT PERFORMING SEX ACT IN HIS TRUCK
Reporter A PERVERT performed a sex act in front of three separate women in broad daylight over four weeks.
Grave digger Simon Donkin was in his truck when he targeted the females, once on a busy main road and twice near a secondary school, in the Walbottle area of Newcastle.
The 33-year-old followed two of his victims in his vehicle and made comments before exposing himself, a court heard. During another incident, magistrates were told, Donkin targeted a woman as she drove in her car on the A69, pulling up alongside her and performing a sex act.
All three women were left “horrified” at his actions and reported him to the police.
Now, Donkin, of Dovecote Drive, Chester-le-Street, has pleaded guilty to three counts of exposure at Newcastle Magistrates’ Court.
Holly Common, prosecuting, said the first offence happened during daylight on October 4 last year. She said: “A woman was driving on the A69 towards Newcastle in the inside lane and tried to overtake a truck.
“As she did, the driver of the truck, who is the defendant, tried to obstruct her by speeding up.
“The woman slows down and the truck did the same thing until the woman was parallel with him.”
The court was told the woman looked into Donkin’s vehicle and saw him with his trousers down, performing a sex act.
The victim immediately pulled into a lay-by and Donkin followed before then driving off.
Ms Common said Donkin struck again two weeks later at around 11.30am on October 19. “The second victim was walking along Hawthorn Terrace [in Walbottle] when she observed a white vehicle parked up on the right hand side”, she said.
“It drove off and parked further up the road on the right hand side. The woman walked past and the vehicle carried out the same manoeuvre. The defendant then did it again for a third time and parked at the Engine Inn car park. “The woman walked outside Walbottle School and the defendant pulled up alongside her. He said “You’re beautiful, you”.”
The victim looked into the vehicle and again saw Donkin with trousers down performing a sex act, however, he drove away when she called him a “dirty perv”, the court heard.
Finally, at around 1.45pm on November 11, Donkin targeted a third woman, who was running on a path outside Walbottle Campus School. Ms Common said: “The victim saw a white truck drive past her with the defendant inside. She saw him making hand movements and she thought he was making fun of her. The vehicle parked up in front of her. She continued running and, as she did, she looked inside the truck and was horrified to see a male with his trousers down to his knees.”
Ms Common said Donkin was, once again, performing a sex act and told her: “You have a nice bum”.
Magistrates heard Donkin was arrested at his home address two weeks later after the matters were reported to the police.
Andrew O’Hanlon, defending, said Donkin had been having mental health issues since he suffered blows to the head in his previous job as a tree surgeon and sustained significant injuries in a motorbike accident. Mr O’Hanlon said Donkin, who has no previous convictions, was remorseful and understood what he had done but didn’t understand why he had done it.
Donkin was given an 18-month community order and must abide by a four-week curfew between the hours of 8pm and 6am.
He was also ordered to pay £85 costs and an £85 victim surcharge.
