It’s all off.. Festival on the Wall: cancelled

PLANNED SUMMER FESTIVAL SUDDENLY CANCELLED

- Showbiz Reporter By Simon Duke simon.duke@trinitymirror.com

ORGANISERS of this summer’s Festival on the Wall have pulled the plug on it.

Music fans had already snapped up tickets to see a line-up of acts including headliners Pet Shop Boys, The Libertines and Mark Ronson.

But now there will be no big stage performance at Northumberland’s Heddon-on-the Wall with organisers saying they made the decision to cancel with “an incredibly heavy heart.”

The announcement of the festival in February caused huge excitement.

But this month we reported how organisers had yet to secure a licence for the event.

At the time, Festival of the Wall bosses insisted it was ‘normal’ for events of this type not to have a licence at this stage.

Tickets for the event went on sale with some costing as much as £430 for the weekend concerts of August 4-6,.

Organisers announced on the event’s Facebook page the news yesterday it was cancelled.

The post said: “After serious consideration and with an incredibly heavy heart, we are sad to announce that Festival On The Wall has been cancelled.

“For the past two years we have put our heart and soul into creating the event that the North East deserves, showcasing everything that is great about this region.

“Unfortunately, several significant operational challenges have made it impossible to continue, and at this point we are left with no choice but to make this very difficult decision.

“All ticket holders will receive an automatic refund and any questions can be answered at info@festivalonthewall.com.”

Others who were due to perform at the event were local band Maximo Park, Dancing on My Own singer Calum Scott and September Song hitmaker JP Cooper.

The event was planned to take place across 350 acres of privately-owned farmland in the Horsley area, 12 miles outside of Newcastle, from Friday August 4 to Sunday August 6.

And it wasn’t just music and camping people -with organisers promising attractions like Hot Tub Sanctuary, Roller Disco, Karavanoke and a cinema.
