Traynor on target again as Bay end with a win

-

WHITLEY Bay and Tynemouth HC’s men’s first XI ended the season in style with a comfortable 4-0 win at Bowdon HC.

Two goals in either half cemented fourth position in the Northern Premier League.

Another goal for the prolific Chris Traynor saw him finish top scorer in the league with 26.

Bay set out their stall in the first half, restricting Bowdon to few chances and playing calm and patient hockey.

It did not take long until they were ahead as Steven Hill lifted in a rebound off the goalkeeper’s pads from close range.

With 10 minutes remaining in the first half it was Traynor’s time to be on the scoresheet as he was able to calmly finish a pulled-back ball from Phil Ithurralde.

The second half was almost a carbon copy of the first as Bay continued to dominate the play, goalkeeper Jordan Thompson only called into action on the odd occasion.

Bay put the game out of sight as James Talbot and Hector Hall picked up a goal apiece.

Hall’s was the goal of the game, a diving deflection at a penalty corner which came in off the upright and flew back across the goal, nestling in the far side netting.

Bay’s men’s second string lost 4-0 to JPC while the thirds reached the final of their cup competition with a 1-0 success at Durham City.

Bay’s senior ladies’ side finished runners-up after a 1-0 loss to Wakefield but the seconds overcame Didsbiry Greys by the same score.
