Dragons slain by the Tomahawks!

WHITLEY Tomahawks cruised past Deeside Dragons 23-2 at Hillheads in their English Under 15 North Division Two encounter.

The Tomahawks are joint league leaders with Sheffield Under-15s’ third string but crucially have a game in hand.

The two title contenders meet in May at Hillheads.

Ben Fryer stepped up from under-13 side the Mohawks for his Tomahawks’ debut.

Also making his first start was Jack Rowley.

Whitley had played Deeside in their last match three weeks ago in North Wales, where they comfortabl­y won 17-0.

The home side started well and took the lead after only 38 seconds through Thomas Fraser.

Alex Nergaard then scored twice in the space of nine seconds as Mohawks were short-handed.

The home side’s second penalty after eight minutes brought Deeside their first goal at 08.46.

It was not long before Nergaard hit his hat-trick marker and Jack Wilkinson struck his first Tomahawks goal in the 13th minute to put his team 5-1 ahead at the first interval.

Callum Taylor began the second period by scoring in the 17th minute and Matthew Wood tucked away the seventh goal two minutes later.

A rampant Tomahawks added five counters in a little over two minutes. Firstly Jack McCumiskey scored at 22.38 and at this point both teams changed netminders as each one was given half a game each - Jack Rook coming on to replace Bobby Campbell in Whitley’s net.

Fryer netted his first Tomahawks goal with Taylor (2) and Nathan Summerson (2) taking the score to 13-1 after two periods.

The final period was also one -way traffic as Fraser nabbed his second and Nergaard bagged another brace for five in the match and 24 for the season.

Owen Curry added another and the Tomahawks were shorthande­d when Taylor grabbed his fourth of the game in the 36th minute.

A powerplay goal soon followed from Wood and McCumiskey, Matthew Betham, Wood and Evan Dodds’ second of the campaign completing the scoring.
