Snooker get a big break with victory

CYPRUS played Snooker Club A in the South Tyneside Super League and were 4-1 behind going into the singles.

Shaun Fairweathe­r drew with John Nicholson as did Trevor Auty with Karl Elliott but, with Gordon Barkas, Brian Campbell, Paul Morrison and Dave Stephenson all winning, the final score was a 14-3 to the Snooker Club. John Nicholson hit a 180. Snooker Club B found themselves 3-2 down to the Voyager after the singles and the pairs.

In the singles they were wins for John Ramsay and John Turner for the Snooker Club and Colin Gates and Gary Thompson for the Voyager.

George Morley and Jordan Rossiter and Lee Storey and Eddie Kimber drew to make the final score 9-8 to the Voyager.

Ramsay had a 107 out shot in the first leg of his singles win.

Boldon Lad had the Westoe Bar A as they opponents and it was the latter who took a slender 3-2 lead into the singles.

Brian McKenna triumphed for the Boldon Lad, as did Derek Boak for the Westoe.

With Phil Armstrong nd Bob Urwin, Chris Lagan and John Naughton, Micky Peace and Chris Robinson and Paul Lambert Junior and Jimmy Hudson all drawing their games, Westoe emerged the 9-8 winners.

Alberta were the visitors to the Caledonian and it was the home team who took a 4-1 lead into the singles rundown.

Barry McCann and Chris Reay prevailed for the Alberta, as did Eric Patterson and Geoff Murray for the Caledonian.

Billy Stevenson and George Hardy and Dave Sinclair and Andy Heley drew as the Caledonian won 10-7.

Westoe Bar B played the Westoe Room and were 3-2 ahead before the singles.

Peter Buglass won for the Room and Dave Whitehead and Steve Graham and Andy Nellist and John Neilson drew.

Victories for Tony Ellis, Ernie Hudson (180) and Peter Stephenson gave the Bar a 11-6 success.
