AT ST OSWALD’S, well trained, ambitious boys from Year 4, 5 and 6 take part in an after school football team. This spring term the remarkable football team have been off to an outstanding start, scoring 7 spectacular goals in 10 games; they are going from strength to strength. It is an enjoyable sport that keeps the footballers fit, healthy and entertained so that they can have more time with their friends.

The awe-inspiring team practise football every Monday before they go home; the determined children train from 3:30 to 4:30pm. The formidable football team go with Mr Usher, who is the coach, to Hebburn Comprehensive 3G pitch to play matches with other school football teams.

A team member from Year 6 quoted: “I enjoy playing football because of the competitiveness between both teams.” Mr Usher mentioned proudly: “I think they are playing well together and are supporting each other.” ON 3RD FEBRUARY 2017, St Oswald’s Hebburn and other schools across Tyne and Wear took part in a competition to win £2000 to spend on nature and our environment. The winners were St. Oswald’! Furthermore, excited pupils and staff were overjoyed to receive a colossal pay cheque. They were awarded the cheque as a result of all their intricate work creating their project. It was decided that the money, which was awarded, would be shared across the classes moreover each class could spend it on a project of their own choice.

Each class had an assured part in the exciting competition, since it was a whole school project. The teacher who entered the school in the competition (Miss Shepherd) explained “It was an opportunity to learn in a different environment with hands on learning experiences.” It was a rigorous competition as a result of so many schools (22 in fact) entering nevertheless they were obviously surprised. St. Oswald’s doesn’t mind getting their hands dirty to look after the environment! During school time, the teachers announced that they had officially won the NEPIC award. The children were ecstatic and relieved as they received the extensive check of £2000.

One Friday morning, the judges (from BOC and NEPIC) arrived to present an assembly which would reveal St. Oswald’s success in this motivational project. At the Assembly, the school council were presented with an enormous cheque, after which the school council members escorted the gentlemen from BOC and NEPIC around the serene nature garden in order to receive a first-hand view of the hard work. Overall, from reception to Year 6 they really enjoyed forwarding their ideas to this mind-blowing project. They found this was a great way to learn and express their creativity whilst in a different environment.
