Hay, it’s a double for Josh

Striker bags a brace in Tavern’s Cup win

-

JOSH Hay grabbed a late winner against Bedlington Social Club to give Amble Tavern a 3-2 victory in the final of the Alan Davison Cup final.

It was a second success inside a fortnight for the Northumberland outfit, who had lifted the S A Randolph Cup thanks to a 4-1 victory against Bedlington Market Tavern.

Amble almost took the lead at Bedlington Terriers FC after two minutes when a header fron Hay struck the bar.

Five minutes later they had another chance - but this time the centre-orward put his shot wide.

Tavern did go in front on 25 minutes when they were awarded a penalty and Hay stepped up to send the Bedlington goalkeeper the wrong way.

However, seven minutes later the Social Club were back on level terms when Josh Monaghan scored.

The second half started with Amble having a chance to gain the advantage again - only to be denied by the crossbar.

However, it took only another five minutes for Amble to regain the lead - Rob Baker scoring at the back post.

Social Club kept pushing forward and gained a penalty when Joe Moscrop was tripped just inside the area.

He got up and took the spot kick himself, placing it to the goalkeeper’s left.

The match looked to be heading for extra time when the Amble side gained a corner.

Hay was on the end of it and placed his header firmly into the net.

Cramlington Green lost 2-1 to Ashington Station Lounge in the Eric Anderson Cup final.

The Lounge wasted loads of chances to secure an easy win and also had two goalbound shots cleared off the line.

However, three minutes into the second half the Green had an effort cleared off the line.

The Green did break the deadlock with 10 minutes remaining.

Louis Sneddon put them in front with a shot which went in off the post - but three minutes later the match was back all square.

A Green defender had no option to play the ball with a forward waiting to pounce and only managed to put the ball into his own net.

With the clash heading for extra time, Richard Stobbart netted with 90 seconds left to put the Lounge in front - and they held on to win.

Bedlington Market Tavern beat Whitehouse Ashington 1-0 in the second semi-final of the J D Marnock Cup, Josh Laverick the man on target.

They will now meet Bedlington Social Club in the final on Sunday, April 30 (10.30).
