‘Vicky’s a great girl, whatever her critics say’
CHRIS Ramsey has defended Vicky Pattison after the former Geordie Shore star was forced to hit back at reports she’d been fired from I’m A Celebrity’s spin-off show.
Like former Queen of the Jungle Vicky, South Shields comic Chris made his presenting debut on ITV2’s Extra Camp at the end of last year and was well aware of the criticism thrown in Vicky’s direction after she made a few onscreen blunders, most notably referring to Extra Camp as Xtra Factor live on air.
Vicky has spoken out about how much the online abuse hurt her and at the weekend posted a series of videos on her Instagram account in response to rumours she’d been dropped from both Extra Camp and the reboot of Blind Date – to which she had been heavily linked before Paul O’Grady and, more recently, Melanie Sykes were confirmed for the show.
Vicky said she wasn’t aware of any decisions being made on Extra Camp but if she wasn’t invited back to host it, she’d take it on the chin. And Chris, who is gearing up to play Metro Radio Arena for the first time on May 6, thinks that her critics were unfair. “It was unfair as we all had a ball filming it,” he told Chronicle Live.
“Vic’s a great girl. I’ve worked with her quite a bit over the past year, on my Comedy Central show, Virtually Famous and in the jungle and we always have a right laugh.
“I don’t quite know what viewers were expecting from Extra Camp. It’s not meant to be like the main show, it runs alongside it.
“That said, you only have to watch I’m A Celebrity to know what to expect. Ant and Dec are always having a laugh. It wasn’t our job to analyse every little detail of what was going on.
“The show didn’t take itself too seriously and neither did we.”
