- By STEVE CLARKE

WEST Allotment Celtic were beaten 3-1 at home to Whitley Bay, who remain in sixth position in Ebac Northern League Division One.

Tom Potter hit the bar after just seven minutes as Whitley started well - and after 14 minutes their early pressure paid off when Thibault Charmey’s shot deflected past goalkeeper Chris Bannon to make it 1-0.

After 33 minutes Alex Kempster pounced on a defensive mistake to fire past goalkeeper Bannon to double their lead. In the 72nd minute, West Allotment pulled a goal back through Craig Hindmarch.

Eight minutes later, though, substitute Callum Patton powered home a header past Bannon to score Whitley’s third goal of the afternoon as their 10-match unbeaten run continued.

In the Durham County Trophy final, Ashbrooke Belford House enjoyed a comprehensive 4-1 success over favourites Jarrow.

Andrew Wilkinson fired Jarrow into the lead after just 17 minutes when his effort beat goalkeeper David Passmore.

Ashbrooke equalised on 49 minutes when Harry Graham smashed in a great goal, giving goalkeeper Mark English no chance.

Ashbrooke went 2-1 in front when Kieron Stokoe scored direct from a free-kick and then David Scott made it 3-1 soon afterwards.

Stephen Bogie sealed the cup when he claimed House’s fourth.

Manager Stuart Burton said: “I am absolutely delighted - all the hard work we have put in for the last six or seven weeks has paid off.

“We were massive underdogs today.

“However, we dominated the game from start to finish and we will be celebrating this triumph for a long time to come.”
