WE WON’T GIVE UP ON THE TITLE, INSISTS MIDFIELDER

ISAAC Hayden is refusing to give up hope of collecting a Championship winner’s medal this season.

During a hectic Easter period, Newcastle face an away day at Ipswich Town while Brighton host relegation-threatened Wigan Athletic at the Amex Stadium.

The only other team in with a realistic shout of automatic promotion are Huddersfield Town, with David Wagner’s side travelling to Derby County for today’s teatime kick-off.

Newcastle fans will be hoping Brighton slip up against the Latics, with three points against Ipswich taking the gap back down to one point going into the final three matches. When asked if he’d thrown the towel in on the title, Hayden told the Chronicle: “No, because you never know. “Obviously Brighton won again (against Wolves) but they have a few tough games coming up. “It’s always like that in the run-in.” But Hayden feels that were Newcastle to win all four of their remaining fixtures, they’d be in with a real shout of lifting the trophy anyway. The former Arsenal man said: “The main thing for us is to focus on ourselves. “Forget Huddersfield, forget Brighton. “As long as we produce the performances like the Leeds game, then we will be OK. “If we can win the last four games, we will be in with a shout of winning the title. “But as we have said, and the manager has said many times, promotion is what we wanted from the start.

“I think everybody in that dressing room wants to win the title.

“That’s up to us now, and we have to win our last four games and see what Brighton.”

Whatever happens at Portman Road today, it will be all eyes on the Sky Sports live fixture between Derby and Huddersfield to see if the Terriers can keep up the pace.

After spending the day waiting to take on Leeds on Good Friday, it will be Huddersfield who have to go last on Easter Monday.
