Spurs linked with a move for Thauvin

-

NEWCASTLE United flop Florian Thauvin could be handed a reprieve in English football - but not at Newcastle United.

According to reports, Premier League high-flyers Tottenham Hotspur want to hand Thauvin a second chance in the Premier League, after the 24-year-old’s impressive season in Ligue 1.

Thauvin has scored 12 times and created a further nine goals for Marseille this term and his upturn in form saw him get a first call-up to the French national side.

Yet, his £12m move to Newcastle was a disaster; he started just three times under Steve McClaren before being shipped off on loan to Marseille in January 2016.

The former Lille winger again moved to Marseille on loan this season and it has been reported that he has triggered a clause which will allow him to sign for Les Olympiens in the summer.

However, Tottenham are reportedly keen to hijack the deal and offer him another chance to prove himself in English football – according to reports in France.

Some reports even suggest that Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino sought the advice of compatriot and former Marseille manager Marcelo Bielsa.

Thauvin recently admitted his spell in England was ‘complicated and made him ‘question himself’.

He said: “My visit to Newcastle was complicated, it made me think, question myself. When I came back on loan, I was doing good things, even if all was not right.

“I did a lot of work on myself and tried to erase my defects, I still have work to do but it is for all these reasons that today it works well.”
