MUST-SEE SHOWS
DOCTOR WHO Tonight, BBC1, 7.20pm
FRANK COTTRELL-BOYCE is one of the most gifted writers around and can seemingly turn his hand to any format – he’s penned novels, produced screenplays, and even wrote the script for the opening ceremony for the 2012 London Olympics.
Now he’s come up with the script for the second episode of the sci-fi show’s latest run.
Set in what appears to be a perfect, gleaming city in the far future at the edge of the galaxy, a new settlement is said to hold the secret of human happiness.
However, the only grins the Doctor (Peter Capaldi) and Bill (Pearl Mackie) can see are from a pile of skulls they have found.
Ralph Little guest stars.
THE ISLAND WITH BEAR GRYLLS Tomorrow, Channel 4, 9pm
THE fourth series of the survival challenge takes on a new approach, featuring two teams from different generations who are marooned on separate islands to see which age group can cope best with hardship.
The older group, led by Frank, 66, gets off to a good start and manages to light a fire. However, 18-year-old Freddie’s team gets lost in the jungle and spends days trying to purify drinking water while suffering from exhaustion and dehydration.
LITTLE BOY BLUE Monday, ITV, 9pm
ON AUGUST 22, 2007, 11-yearold Rhys Jones was walking home from football practice in the Croxteth Park area of Liverpool when he was shot in the back by a hooded youth on a silver mountain bike aiming at members of a rival mob.
This four-part drama, written by Jeff Pope with the support of the Jones family, chronicles the tragedy, and how Rhys’ killer, Sean Mercer, and his associates were caught and prosecuted.
In the first episode, Merseyside Police’s DS Kelly (Stephen Graham) is charged with bringing Rhys’ killer to justice, but although the assailant’s identity is well known, finding evidence proves to be far more difficult.
PAUL O’GRADY: FOR THE LOVE OF ANIMALS – INDIA Tuesday, ITV, 9pm
