Christians promoted - and Samba set to join them in top flight

N/EAST CHRISTIAN FELLOWSHIP LEAGUE DIVISION ONE

-

A GOAL in the last 10 minutes from Simon Parker gave North Shields Community Christians a 1-0 win at Morpeth Mighty Oaks.

If Sunderland Samba lost at home to Heaton Saints, Shields would have become champions - but Samba did not read the script.

Goals from Neil Atkinson (2), George Churchill and Alex Ironside saw them triumph 4-1 , Matthew Haigh on target for Heaton.

That meant the Christians were promoted - and then on Saturday Samba and the Christians clashed on Wearside.

Daniel Bland fired the Christians ahead but George Churchill earned Samba a point.

The Christians now need a point from their last fixture at home to Hillsong tonight to be champions.

If they lose Samba - who need one point to be promoted - could take the title with victories in their last three matches.

Phil Russell and Ryan Creighton (2) secured Heaton Hearts a 3-0 victory at Hillsong Newcastle.

On Saturday, Jay Riches scored all three goals, the third a penalty, to complete a hat-trick for Morpeth Mighty Oaks as they prevailed 3-1 at Saint Cuthbert’s Corinthians. Heaton Saints faced Praise Christian Church International and went a goal ahead after 30 minutes through Dylan Jackson.

Matthew Haigh equalised on the stroke of half-time.

Two minutes into the second period Praise took the lead again courtesy of Twanda Munhupedzi but on the hour David Wilde levelled.

Haigh netted his second at the death as Praise snatched a 3-2 result.
