ASHINGTON Town Miners and Embleton WR progressed to the final of the Runciman Cup at the expense of Craster Rovers and Highfields United respectively.

The Miners’ clash was a very close game and the 2-0 score probably does not reflect how tight the clash was.

Scott Niel gave Ashington the lead in the first half but after going behind Rovers came into the game and created the better chances.

However, they could not convert any of them and on 85 minutes Ashington caught them on the break - Bradley Higgins scoring to make it 2-0.

Division Two champions Embleton WR came through their game at Berwick, prevailing 7-1 against Highfields.

It remained goalless up to 40 minutes but two goals in the space of two minutes from Woolett and Chisholm saw the away side go in at the break two goals ahead.

A third goal within two minutes of the restart from Niel McFall effectively ended the tie.

Ryan Wedderburn gave the home side hope but further counters from McFall, a Chisholm screamer and two from Woolett took Embleton WR through to the final.

The Division One title was decided at Lowick, where Amble St Cuthbert beat Lowick United 2-0.

The first half was goalless but two Joe Henderson strikes in the second period guided Amble home.

Unfortunately, Amble could not manage enough goals so Tweedmouth Harrow were crowned champions - St Cuthbert runners-up on goal difference.

Harrow were in action at Rothbury in the second leg of the quarter-final of the Presidents Cup, having taken the first leg 3-0.

A 3-3 draw saw them progress to the last four 6-3 on aggregate.
