Wagner has no worries

-

DAVID Wagner is not worried by Huddersfield’s faltering form as his side try to overcome the disappointment of missing out on automatic promotion by punching their play-off ticket.

Newcastle’s victory over Preston saw them go up to the Premier League alongside Brighton, with Wagner’s Terriers unable to break into the top two despite leading the chasing pack for most of the past two months.

Huddersfield have lost half of their past 10 Championship fixtures and Saturday’s 4-1 home defeat to Fulham epitomised the current contrasting fortunes between two clubs currently in the top six.

However, victory at Wolves on Tuesday would ensure Huddersfield’s place in the playoffs, when Wagner believes the impact of recent results goes out of the window.

“I have no concerns about the form,” he said at his pre-match press conference.

“My only thoughts are on the next game, that we collect the points which we need to make sure we are in the play-offs. Then it’s the start of a totally new competition.

“Momentum, form, I know everybody is speaking about this, it’s not the most important thing because it’s a different competition - everything starts at zero.

“This is why we only have to be focused on what is in front of us, this is only our focus.”

Wolves’ Championship status for next season has already been secured although George Saville has been keen to stress that nobody in their camp is thinking of their holidays yet.

And recent victories over Leeds and Fulham have suggested to Saville that the visit of Huddersfield could be just what his team needs.

“We seem to have done better against the top sides, and I am looking forward to it,” he told wolves.co.uk.

“We don’t want to just get over the line as we have and then leave it – we need to perform over these last three games and give something back to the fans and give us confidence going into next season.”
