The Saints go marching in to third spot

SAINT Paul’s Ryhope held on to third place with a 4-0 victory over fourthplac­ed Jesmond Parish Church.

Two days later, however, the Wearsiders lost 4-2 at home to Consett Saint Patrick’s - meaning they will finish third in the table.

Saints are the reigning champions and this win consolidat­ed top place.

They are now six points ahead of Stockton Churches Portrack with both sides having completed 14 games.

It was Derek Emery who fired Saints ahead after just two minutes.

However, five minutes later Keiran Davis equalised for Saint Paul’s and he struck again on 38 minutes.

Gary Charlton levelled the scores before the break.

Aidan Bailey put Consett Saint Patrick’s back on track and eventually Colin Wheatley netted to confirm the victory.

Saints need one point from their home match with Emmanuel Church Durham tonight to secure the title.

Stockton Churches Portrack, meanwhile, tanked hosts Emmanuel Church Durham 8-1.

Andrew Brown and Marc Dawson both scored twice, strikes from Alex Fawcett, Jordan Hoggarth, Lee Twizell and Liam Wild makig up the tally.

Michael Hogg notched the last goal of the game and Emmanuel’s consolatio­n.

At the bottom, Stockton Church United have five games to play in 12 days.

They lie in a relegation position needing a possible eight points to be safe - but boosted their survival chances with a 3-2 victory over Jesmond Parish Church.

United’s Jacob Waters struck on 30 minutes and Mark Banks made it 2-0 before the hour.

Nick Rowling netted for Jesmond moments later before Banks claimed his second to restore his team’s two-goal advantage.

In the last 10 minutes Nick Lividas notched to give Stockton the jetters - but they held on for three valuable points.

Jesmond Parish Church finished in fourth place after this defeat.

In the final round of league matches this weekend Consett St Patricks host Jesmond Parish Church, Saint Charles RC Church Gosforth welcome Stockton Churches Portrack and Saint Paul’s entertain Stockton Church United.
