Business Reporter ORTH East IT giant Accenture is creating 60 new jobs at its Newcastle Delivery Centre as it seeks to expand its skilled divisions outside of London.

Only last year, the global tech firm expanded into a second building at Cobalt Business Park after securing a £1.85m Let’s Grow Fund grant, backed by The Journal, which saw it create new jobs and take workforce levels past the 700 mark on Tyneside.

Now, in a move which directors say cements the firm’s commitment to creating skilled jobs in the North East, Accenture is recruiting for a further 60 roles within its technology and consulting divisions.

It is planned that the new starters will be recruited by the firm by the end of the company’s financial year – on August 31 – at North Tyneside’s Cobalt Business Park.

The firm, which employs around 13,000 people in the UK, said this latest expansion reflects Accenture’s ongoing investment in the North East and its support for the government’s plans to rebalance the national economy by establishing the North as a global economic powerhouse.

The new positions at the business – a global professional services company which providing services across strategy, consulting, digital, technology and operations – will range from entry-level to experienced executives, and include support for clients of Accenture’s health and public service practice.

Mark Larsen, managing director for Accenture Newcastle, said: “We are looking for skilled and highly motivated individuals who share our commitment to helping clients succeed in the digital economy.

“Accenture already has a strong presence in the North East, with established links to its flourishing business and academic communities. Our new hires will enable us to further expand our local footprint and ensure that our strategic consulting advisory practice is well-positioned to take advantage of the wealth of talent and opportunities in the North East.”

Accenture recently opened a UK and Ireland Innovation Centre for Finance and Risk on its Newcastle Campus. This centre focuses on developing solutions for finance and risk data management, data engineering, advanced analytics, artificial intelligence and reporting.

In the last six years the company’s head count at its Newcastle Delivery Centre has more than trebled from 200 to in excess of 700. More recently, Accenture doubled its Newcastle workforce across its technology, operations and consulting workforces, including taking on more than 100 apprentices.
