Final will be a Barn-stormer

NORTH EAST REGIONAL WOMEN’S LEAGUE PREMIER DIVISION

-

AFTER their penalty-shootout success in the NERWFL League Cup, Wallsend BCL will meet Barnsley.

The Tykes progressed with a walkover victory after an injury crisis at opponents Malet Lambert left them with only seven fit players.

Wallsend will more than likely come up against the league champions after leaders Norton and Stockton Ancients lost 3-0 in their final match at third-placed Castleford.

A Barnsley victory at Oughtibridge tomorrow will see them crowned champions on goal difference and also gain promotion to the FA Women’s Premier League’s Northern Division One.

The League Cup decider will be played at Wilberfoss Sports Ground in York on Sunday, May 21.

Wallsend BCL host Castleford tomorrow while Tynedale must wait until May 14 to play their final fixture at York City.

RUNAWAY Durham County League champions Boldon CA Villa remain on course to complete the double after they won their League Cup semi-final against Consett 4-2.

A brace by Elizabeth Thompson-Clarke separated the sides, Kayleigh Rogers and Kay Mills also on target.

Stephanie Curry and Nicole McEvoy netted for Consett, who are still fighting for promotion.

After the match, Villa, who are unbeaten all season - dropping only two points - were presented with the league trophy.

The South Tynesiders still have two league matches to play before their final against Stockton West End at Chester-le-Street on Sunday, May 21.

In Division One, Birtley Town lost 4-1 at home to Chester-le-Street Town Development.

Washington were beaten by the same at Gateshead Leam Rangers.

Gateshead Rutherford overcome Coxhoe United 4-3 at home in Division Two while Newbiggin Hall triumphed won 8-2 against visitors South Shields Reserves.
