CARDINAL Hume Catholic School fell at the last hurdle in their bid for ESFA Under-16 Cup glory.

The Gateshead under-11 team lost 4-3 on penalties after their final against Windsor Boys’ School at the Manchester Academy had ended 1-1 after extra time.

Teacher Paul Kiernan said: “There were some pretty devastated lads at the end of the the game.

“However, they could not have done any more. They were an absolute credit to the school and did everybody proud.” ■■WALLSEND Boys Club lifted the TyneMet College NFA Rangers Under-16 Cup with a 2-1 win over Newcastle East End.

In the opening round of the Lady Eden Hospitals Cup, New Hartley lost 2-0 at home to Stockton Town. ■■BURNOPFIEL­D are into the final of the Apollo Doors Gateshead Youth League’s Under-13 Cup final after a 4-2 victory over Prudhoe Youth Galaxy. ■■NEW Fordley Blues defeated Rutherford 6-2 in the Apollo Doors Gateshead Youth League’s Under-14 Bridges Division.

Felling Whites saw off Harton and Westoe 4-1. ■■UNDER-11 side Newcastle Benfield San Siro have been crowned ESF Festival of Footbal champions in Skegness.

It is the second year in a row a club outfit has triumphed at the competitio­n - Benfield Juniors winning there last year.
