A Glam start to Adam Ant tour

-

ADAM Ant is all set to stand and deliver at the Metro Radio Arena on tonight – and his fans can’t wait.

Riding high on the success of last year’s sell-out Kings of the Wild Frontier tour, the dandy highwayman has picked Newcastle to kick off his ANTHEMS: The Singles UK tour.

The 62-year-old – who has led the 80s revival, triggering another wave of Antmania – tweeted his followers yesterday to say: “The ANTHEMS tour starts tomorrow! Don’t miss out!” and his Geordie fans have no intention of passing up on their chance to see it first.

Also excited about the upcoming show are American glitter-rockers Glam Skanks who have flown over especially for their first-ever Newcastle date. The all-female band opened for Adam Ant on the North American leg of his Wild Frontier tour earlier this year.

Glam Skanks singer Ali Cat recalled: “Our first night meeting Adam was actually the second night of the Kings of the Wild Frontier North American tour.

“He tried to find us the first night after our set but we were already out meeting fans.

“Later on that night he mentioned on stage that he was looking for us.”

And, having met up and heard them live, he was impressed enough to pick them to open for him again in the UK.

Guitarist Veronica Volume, who grew up in Hollywood and has jammed with Johnny Depp, said: “Adam had seen some of our music videos and liked us enough to invite us out with him.”

While she once toured in the UK as a teenager in her then-band Blame Ruby, for the others – the line-up also includes Millie on bass and Cassie on drums – this is new ground.

Ali said of their debut visit to Newcastle: “We can’t wait! We’re definitely looking forward to bringing our highenergy rock show all over the UK and meeting everyone out there!”

Before Adam takes to the stage with his back-catalogue of material, including hit singles, B-Sides and personal favourites, Geordie audiences can expect a flamboyant, high-energy and big-impact opening set.

Ali said: “We’re definitely influenced by early 70s rock and glam bands like New York Dolls, The Runaways and T. Rex, back when guitars were big and loud and lead singers were larger-than-life rock stars.

“It’s great seeing that younger kids our age are picking it up and digging it.”

As for quite what we can expect from their gig, she added: “You’ll just have to come to find out!”

They’ll be taking to the Arena stage at 7.45pm for a 45-minute set.
