Geordie stars
BENIDORM star Tim Healy and former AC/DC frontman Brian Johnson are among the latest Geordie legends to be immortalised on the Newcastle and Gateshead Quayside. Four new names have been honoured with their own stars on Tyneside’s ‘Walk of Fame’ – a Hollywood-style tribute to local heroes. The four plaques will join the other 29 bronze stars that currently make up the “NewcastleGateshead Local Heroes” collection along NewcastleGateshead’s Quayside Mile. They are voted for by the public, based on who they feel has made a significant contribution to the region over the past 60 years. Benwell-born actor Tim Healy was on the Quayside to see his star being unveiled. “I’m absolutely made up,” he said of the honour. “It made me feel a bit old but I was delighted.” Tim first won over viewers with his role as Dennis Patterson in hit 1980s comedy Auf Wiedersehen Pet about a gang of Geordie builders in Germany. In a video made by Newcastle City Council, Tim said he would “always be a Geordie lad” and thanked the people that voted for him to get his own star. He said: “I started my career at the Live Theatre and it was one of the best times of my life. “You find that, when you have nothing and you’re trying and you’re struggling, that’s one of the best times. “Now we have this fantastic theatre on the Quayside, just a stone’s throw from my plaque, so I’m very happy about it.” The other names to be added to the Walk of Fame were: JOHN GRUNDY.
