Bharti in very good Nik for Civil Service in defeat of Bomarsund

NIKHIL Bharti smashed 151 as Civil Service won by 34 runs to end the unbeaten run of Bomarsund.

Civil Service finished on 240-6 from their 40 overs thanks to Bharti’s century.

Stephen Thain scored 55 in reply for the home side and Colin Thornton finished unbeaten on 77 - but they could only manage 206-4.

Backworth Seconds also lost for the first time as they went down at Whitley Bay by two wickets.

The seconds made only 107, three wickets apiece for Chris Dunn (3-33), Neil Dolan (3-10) and Chris Wrigley (3-8). A nervy reply was eased late on as Peter McLeod (12 not out) and Chris Wrigley (10 not out) guided the hosts to 111-8.

Ulgham won at home against Whickham Seconds by 105 runs.

Opener Paul Howey posted 82 while both Roy Haygarth and David Covell made 57 beforeUlgh­am were bowled out for 293.

Whickham finished their 44 overs on 188-9 as Darrell Campbell claimed 5-45.

Kirkley fell into the drop zone after suffering a 44-run defeat at Hebburn.

Rhys Warburton struck 101 as Hebburn totalled 198-6 from their 37 overs.

Opener Christian Rowe top-scored with 34 but Kirkley were bowled out for only 154 in reply.

Successive victories for Blagdon Park Seconds have moved them out of the drop zone.

This time they overcame Clara Vale at home by 80 runs. The hosts recovered to total 165 before being dismissed as Riaz Mohammed took 6-39.

Alex Higgins top-scored with 45 with Paul Johnson contributi­ng 37. Vale could only muster 85 in reply.

Warenford slipped to the bottom after losing at home to Monkseaton by four wickets.

Opener Brian Thompson made 117 but Warenford were still bowled out for 193.

Mark Tunstall (46), Kevin Elliott (35) and 38 wides helped Monkseaton reach 195-6..
