Hodnet’s return will boost South

SOUTH Northumber­land hope to bounce back to winning ways against bottom club Felling tomorrow.

Adam Cragg’s side hit the road after a tight winning draw against Hetton Lyons last weekend.

Skipper Cragg said: “Marcus North and Rob Peyton are unavailabl­e due to holidays.

“Strike bowler Tom Hodnet is back from university and plays.

“We remain top of the league after a tight winning draw last time out and we look forward to the fixture with Felling, a good side yet to get into their stride.”

Newcastle welcome Stockton to Osborne Avenue and Director of Cricket, Doug Hudson said: “We are unchanged apart from skipper Jacques Do Toit returning from injury, which is a boost to the team.

“We are playing reasonable cricket at the moment but just not getting the rewards.

“Every team bats down to nine or 10 and if you don’t win the toss it is very difficult to win games.”

Benwell Hill, in second place, travel to Hetton Lyons with skipper Kyle Coetzer expecting a tough battle.

He said: “Hetton Lyons are always strong and a determined team and they can beat anyone on their day.

“Their result at South North last week backs this up so we will need to be on our best form. However, we are at full strength and looking forward to the game.”

Tynemouth, who are sixth, travel to Eppleton in fifth position.

Eppleton chairman Jeff Park said: “We have a doubt over Tyler Easton as he may struggle with a dislocated finger.

“We are looking forward to the game and everyone at the club is delighted we are competing much better this season.”

Chester-le-Street entertain Durham Cricket Academy at Ropery Lane.

Academy manager John Windows said: “All sections of the team are performing well, so confidence improves with each fixture.

“Chester is a good opportunit­y for the Academy youngsters to really test themselves.”

Chester skipper John Coxon said: “We have Liam Simpson missing and Matthew Cranston and youngster Ollie Barrett will be in contention for places.

“It was disappoint­ing the rain intervened at Benwell Hill last weekend as we were in a strong position to win the game and make up ground on South North.

“As for the Academy, they can beat anybody on their day.”
