Black Cats ponder move for Arfield

-

SUNDERLAND have been linked with a move for Burnley winger Scott Arfield. The Canadian international has fallen out of favour at Turf Moor and is believed to be looking for a move which will guarantee him more first-team football. Burnley beat Sunderland to Robbie Brady’s signature in January, which pushed Arfield further down the pecking order under Sean Dyche. However, the Black Cats could now offer him the chance to play in the Championship, where he is a proven performer. Arfield (pictured) made 31 Premier League appearances for Burnley last season, scoring just once. However, he was one of their key men in the 2015-16 promotion campaign, scoring eight goals. Although born in Scotland, Arfield opted to play for Canada and has seven caps for the North American side.

Meanwhile, the Black Cats have also been installed as second favourites to land Fraizer Campbell this summer.

The Crystal Palace forward’s contract runs out this summer, Huddersfield leading the way for his signature.

Sunderland – still looking for a manager following David Moyes’ departure – are second in the running according to bookmakers Ladbrokes.

Campbell had a spell on Wearside earlier in his career, scoring six times in 58 appearances between 2009-13 in a period which was fraught with injuries.

He made his only England appearance during that time, although the lure of the Premier League could prove the key factor for Campbell.
