NuFC nearly top of the league on shirt charges

- By DAVID DUBAS-FISHER

FANS WILL HAVE TO PAY £54.99 FOR LATEST ONE

NEWCASTLE are charging more for their new shirt than almost any other club in the Premier League.

So far, 12 of next season’s topflight sides have released either their home or away kits for 2017-18 – and there are some huge discrepancies between the costs levied on fans.

The Chronicle has been through every Premier League club’s online store to find how much each one is charging for their standard adult jerseys. Manchester clubs City and United have the most expensive replica tops, at an eye-watering £60 each.

Someone on an average salary in the city – £13.74 an hour, according to latest government figures – would have to work four hours and 22 minutes in order to pay for a jersey.

West Ham and Newcastle have the next most expensive shirts at £55 and £54.99 respectively.

Magpies fans on the average Newcastle salary – £14.95 an hour – would have to work three hours and 40 minutes for the top.

While the most expensive jerseys can be found in Manchester, a 30-mile trip up the M66 takes you to where the cheapest shirts in the Premier League can be found.

Burnley’s new home kit can be purchased for just £40. Crystal Palace and Stoke are also charging much less than some of their topflight counterparts – £44.99 and £45 respectively.

The Palace shirt also comes with the bonus of not having a shirt sponsor so you don’t have to turn yourself into a walking billboard for a betting company whenever you wear it.

Premier League new boys Brighton are selling their shirt for £48, while Everton, Leicester, Liverpool and West Brom are all charging £50.
