Academy Director Josh Rutherford said: “It was a fantastic day, the football was played to a high standard and most importantly the children played with a smile on their face and enjoyed themselves.

“Thanks to Amble Town Council for their support in hosting the event, which has become very popular since it began in 2015.”

The Academy also hosted a Champions League camp at Amble Welfare ahead of the Champions League final between Spanish champions Real Madrid and Italian giants Juventus.

The youngsters involved participated in fun and technical coaching sessions with the focus on ball manipulation, developing free attacking decisions, showing an initiative attacking attitude when in the final third and encouraging creativity when one-on-one with a defender.

They also played their very own ‘Road to Cardiff ’ event in a Champions League Tournament format, building from group-stage matches all the way through to the final.

Teams even walked out to the famous Champions League theme and played with the official Champions League matchball.

Rutherford added: ‘It was a brilliant week for the children.

“With it being Champions League final week I thought I would give the camp a theme as we know children love watching the Champions League with the best players in the world on stage and with the best teams playing.”
