Abraham is ‘exceptional’ says Hegeler
NEWCASTLE United loan target Tammy Abraham is “exceptional” and has “brutal potential,” believes one of his former Bristol City teammates.
In fact, Jens Hegeler stresses 19-year-old Abraham has more potential than any of his German compatriots who are of a similar age.
Rafa Benitez is keen to bring Abraham, who scored 26 goals on loan at Ashton Gate last summer, to St James’ Park for the 2017/18 Premier League campaign and Newcastle are understood to have a season-long loan agreement in place with Chelsea.
However, the Magpies are waiting for Abraham - who also has offers from Brighton, Swansea City and Dutch club Vitesse Arnhem to make a decision on where he wants to spend the upcoming campaign.
The forward is in Poland with the England under-21 side and said earlier this week his future will not be resolved until after the completion of the European Championship.
Wherever Abraham heads next season, though, former Germany Under-21 international Hegeler expects the forward to succeed having witnessed what the Chelsea striker can do first hand at Bristol City.
Hegeler said: “Tammy Abraham has brutal potential, his requirements are exceptional.
“I don’t know the German youth national teams so well but spontaneously no German player at this age comes to my mind who has similar potential.
“He is a very cheerful, funny guy with a healthy dose of selfconfidence. I think that is normal for a 19-year-old guy who scored more than 20 goals last season.
“You have to consider he still played at junior level only one year ago and then scores so many goals in his first season with first-team football.
“Until now his development has gone very well.
“I am excited to see what he is going to do next season.”
