A trip to Warkworth in 1933 captured on film

-

WE return to enjoy another film from Newcastle ACA (Amateur Cinematographers’ Association).

The group is celebrating its 90th anniversary and has kindly been sharing some of its superb work with the Chronicle.

Their latest video offering is titled ‘The ACA’s Trip to Warkworth’.

The group’s spokesman, Stephen Green, takes up the story.

“In 1933 Newcastle ACA was six years old and had many films under its belt.

“When a trip to Warkworth was planned, what better way to celebrate than make a film?

“In those days of the Depression and between the wars, it is refreshing to see young people enjoying themselves.

“We see ACA cameramen and women in fact, the lady holding the two ice creams, Doris Graham, was an accomplished ACA director and actress, and was often found at the other end of a cine camera.

“The film captures a typical club trip by bus, complete with ACA standard on the roof and advert for local beer.”

Stephen continues: “Members of the ACA lunch in the sand dunes and take part in a makeshift fashion parade where both men and women display the swimming costumes of the day - some real stunners there too!

“A trip to the coast wouldn’t be complete without a good old plodge and mess about in the sea, topped off with an ice cream. Happy days indeed!” ■■Newcastle ACA continues to thrive and is always on the lookout for new members.

It meets on Tuesday evenings, 7.30pm, at the West Denton Association, Hillhead Road, West Denton, Newcastle. NE5 1DN. Tel 07582486082.
