Children in spotlight at awards ceremony
YOUNGSTERS, CARERS AND FAMILIES ALL RECOGNISED AT EVENT
THERE were big smiles all around yesterday as the Children’s Foundation staged its annual Star Awards in Newcastle.
Now in it’s 11th year, the event recognises the achievements of children in the North East with a disability, as well as their friends and families and the challenges they face on a daily basis.
The Children’s Foundation project manager, Kerry McCormack, said the awards ceremony – held at the Biscuit Factory in Ouseburn – was a huge success and one they look forward to every year.
She said: “It’s always such a pleasure to host an event like this. Everyone who receives an award is so inspirational and we look forward to celebrating their achievements each year.
“As this is an annual event we welcome nominations from across the whole of the North East all year round.”
The awards were handed out by Metro Radio Breakfast Show hosts Steve and Karen at the prestigious ceremony.
The award categories were child or young person, friend or sibling and parent or carer. Over the years, since the event began, more than 200 Stars Awards have been handed out.
The event was sponsored by intu Eldon Square, and Clare Cannon, community manager, praised the bravery of the little stars.
She said: “We are thrilled to be sponsoring The Children’s Foundation Stars Awards. It was amazing to see how
brave all of the children are and how they cope on a daily basis despite the challenges they face.”
The Children’s Foundation is a charity which aims to ensure that children and young people in the North East and North Cumbria have access to the best health and wellbeing services in the UK, and has been running for 27 years.
