LINTZ are relying on local talent to prosper this season - and skipper Gary Christie is delighted with how they are performing.

Lintz recorded their fourth victory of the season when they defeated fifth-placed Lanchester at Lumley Gardens by 56 runs.

They now sit comfortably in sixth position in Division A1 following their promotion from Division A2 last season.

Christie said: “We were really pleased with the result, particularly when their bowler Kieron Taylor came back for his second spell and threatened to turn the match.

“He took two wickets and put pressure right back on to us.

“However, Johnny Foster and Ryan McVittie batted superbly to give us a decent total.

“We are very strong at home and hope to maintain the standards we have set ourselves this season.

“We need to beat the teams around us to stay where we are.

“We signed Andy and Steve Smith from Swalwell to give us more experience and it is our club policy to not have a professional, so we rely on local lads to strengthen the squad.”

Lintz decided to bat first and made an excellent 234-6, opener Foster scoring 77 off 108 balls - including 11 fours and two sixes.

McVittie, batting at six, made an excellent 83 off 96 balls - including nine fours and three sixes.

Lanchester’s bowling attack of Aaran Halliday, Taylor and Greg Halliday each took two wickets.

With the new ball, Jordan Clennell removed both Lanchester openers Mark Small and Sam Reynolds cheaply in his 3-47.

Although Graham Brinton made an attacking 71 - with nine fours and two sixes - off 72 balls and Sam Crookes scored 34, three wickets apiece for Kieron Gohery, Jordan Clennell and Paul Lumley soon put paid to any chance the visitors had of knocking off the required runs, finishing on 178 all out off 38 overs.

At the top, Swalwell hold a 15-point lead after an impressive 158-run victory over Ponteland.

All of Swalwell’s batsmen contributed to an emphatic total of 283-3.

Then experienced spinner Nicky Phillips did the damage, claiming 6-30 to bowl out Pont for only 125.

Percy Main registered a 140-run victory over Tynedale - opener D Anderson with a magnificent 123 in their total of 256-3.

Tynedale opener S Mannion also recorded a century - 108 - as Main made a fist of it, ending up on 242-8.

Consett took the derby bragging rights against neighbours Leadgate with a nine-wicket success.

Batting first, Leadgate were restricted to just 121, Consett easily knocking off the total thanks to halfcenturies from openers Andy Stokoe (54) and Gary Hunter (52 not out).

Ryton overcame Newcastle City by 25 runs and Ashington beat Shotley Bridge by six wickets.
