It will joinits male counterparts in competing in the most prestigious college football league in England.

The move will see North Tyneside-based TyneMet join some of the best college programmes across the country.

Warick Stephenson, head of care, sport and leisure at TyneMet, said: “It is great news for the Women’s Football Academy to have been accepted into the ECFA Category One league for the 17/18 season.

“The programme has grown steadily with a growing reputation for supporting both excellent academic and career progression.

“Category One allows our players to play at the highest possible standard against colleges from across the North of England.”

Academy head coach Carl Chater said: “It will be a fantastic opportunity for squad players to test their abilities against the best in the country at college level.”

The Academy is looking for players ahead of the 2017/18 academic year.
