One last world title shot still Hall’s target

STUART Hall has set his sights on earning back his world title, following last summer’s controversial points loss to Lee Haskins.

The Darlington boxer became only the North East’s second-ever world champion after Glenn McCrory in 2013 when he defeated Vusi Malinga.

After losing it to Paul Butler six months later, bantamweight Hall then challenged his old foe Haskins last September to win it back.

Haskins got the nod on the judges’ scorecards, but still to this day Hall is adamant he won that fight.

Now aged 37, Hall returns for the first time since that defeat as part of a stacked card laid on by Matchroom Boxing at the Walker Dome in Newcastle this evening.

However, he insists he still has one more big upset in him as he targets retirement while holding a world title.

Hall said: “I cannot wait. It is a good six-round warm-up fight.

“I need to look good and perform well and then hopefully get a big fight next.

“I thought I won that last fight against Haskins and so did a lot of other people. Hopefully, I can get another big fight and put things right.

“It is good to be back on home turf with a good set of young lads coming through, so it should be a good show.

“North East boxing is booming. There are some talented amateurs coming through as well, it is really good.

“My aim is to try and push on (towards another world title). I still have another big upset in me and two big fights left in me so I am looking forward to the future.”

Hall was speaking at the weigh-in which took place in the JD Sports store in Newcastle. He will square off with Jose Aguilar on the card, which also features Bradley Saunders, Anthony Fowler and Natasha Jonas and is topped by the all-North East clash between Josh Kelly and Tom Whitfield.
