It’s Hip to play in tournament
BOYS and girls from across the region participated in the 22nd annual Hipsburn Trident Football-Tournament.
Hipsburn United emerged as the champions after a 4-1 victory over Wooler United having overcome their stablemates Hipsburn Rovers 1-0 in a tense semi-final.
The tournament, organised and sponsored by Trident Soccer, has raised thousands of pounds for school funds over the past two decades, the event encompassing support from all across Northumberland.
The popular inter-school competition this year included squads from Alnwick, Amble, Belford, Felton, Hipsburn, Longhorsley, Rothbury, Seahouses, Swarland, Thropton, Warkworth and Wooler.
Hipsburn First School head teacher Kevin Maloney said: “I would like to thank everyone who participated in the tournament for making it such an incredible success.
“I would also like to thank Ryan Jobson and the Trident Soccer team for organising and sponsoring the event as well as FA referees Richard Kelley and Peter Taylor, fixture co-ordinator Malcolm Graham and our school staff.”
Trident Soccer Director Ryan Jobson said: “The Hipsburn Tournament is a unique event within the local sporting calendar.
“It brings together children, parents, schools and local communities as part of the Trident Soccer Schools Partnership.
“We witnessed something very special this year and the quality of football played was exceptional.
“I would therefore like to thank all the children, parents, officials and staff involved who continue to make this such an outstanding tournament.”
