Tigers head south to shine as Diamonds

-

TWO top Glasgow Tigers, Aaron Summers and Richie Worrall, become Newcastle Diamonds for the night at Byker tomorrow (6.30), coming in as guests for Robert Lambert and Steve Worrall, who are racing for Great Britain in the Speedway World Cup at King’s Lynn this evening.

Summers and Richie Worrall will find themselves up against their Tigers team-mate Richard Lawson, who steps in as a guest No 1 for Berwick Bandits in a SGB Championship match.

Both Lambert and Steve Worrall are nursing broken bones in the scaphoid area of the wrist, but are desperately keen to race for their country, especially the latter, as it is his debut at international level.

Newcastle team manager George English said: “As a club, we are delighted both Robert and Steve have been selected for Great Britain and we wish them every success on the night.

“However, we still have a league match to contest against Berwick, so we have booked Steve’s twin brother Richie and Glasgow captain Aaron Summers as guests because we know they will do a great job for us.

“The Bandits have suffered a few injuries this season, but with Richard Lawson spearheading Berwick tomorrow, I’m sure there will be plenty of keen rivalry and entertainment when Aaron and Richie lock horns with him.”

All three Glasgow men on show tomorrow were well among the points when the Tigers defeated the Diamonds at Byker 47-43 two weeks ago, Richie Worrall notching 11, Summers 10, and Lawson 7 (paid 9).

Should Great Britain progress to next Saturday’s Final in Poland, the Diamonds will need two guests again on Friday as a restaging date has been confirmed for the Championship meeting at Scunthorpe, which was rained off at the back end of May.
