DOCTOR WHO
Tonight, BBC1, 6.30pm PETER CAPALDI’S tenure as the Doctor draws close to its conclusion, as the Mondasian Cybermen rise. Not seen since the pre-2005 series, the original Cybermen came from Mondas, ‘Earth’s twin planet’, and posed a threat to the Time Lord.
Now, as these sinister cyborgs attempt a new conquest, the Doctor makes a final stand.
Pearl Mackie and Matt Lucas also star as Bill and Nardole, Michelle Gomez reprises her role as Missy, while John Simm puts in an appearance as the Master.
Last in the series.
GEORGE BEST: ALL BY HIMSELF
Tomorrow, BBC2, 9pm PLENTY has been said and written about George Best since he burst onto the footballing scene with Manchester United in the 1960s and became arguably the first superstar player.
However, he was soon hitting the headlines due to his private life, particularly his womanising and love of the demon drink.
This is fascinating viewing and offers a revealing insight into a man who once had it all.
THE BETRAYED GIRLS
Monday, BBC1, 8.30pm THE 2012 trial of nine Asian men who were found guilty of the grooming, rape and sex trafficking of teenage girls in Rochdale shocked the nation – and five years on, the case continues to cause outrage. In May, the BBC broadcast Three Girls, a powerful drama which explored how the girls were let down by the authorities.
This documentary hears from those at the heart of the story including testimony from the victims as well as those who spoke out for them.
LIFE BEHIND BARS: VISITING HOUR
Tuesday, Channel 4, 9pm THE UK’s prison population is at an all-time high, with over 86,000 people behind bars – which suggests that there’s also a growing number of people visiting jailed loved ones.
Cameras have been given unprecedented access to the visiting room at HMP Low Moss, one of the largest maximumsecurity prisons in Scotland, to see how the inmates doing hard time can try to reconnect with the lives they once had, even if it’s just for 60 minutes.
RHS: HAMPTON COURT FLOWER SHOW
Wednesday, BBC2, 9.30pm MONTY DON and Joe Swift take a first look at the Royal Horticultural Society’s Hampton Court Palace Flower Show, and are joined by experts to review the diverse range of show gardens and discover how
award-winning designer Andy Sturgeon is recycling past Chelsea Flower Show gardens.
Arit Anderson reveals the stories behind the conceptual gardens, while Carol Klein is in the floral marquee.
CLADDING: HOW SAFE ARE OUR HIGH RISES? TONIGHT
Thursday, ITV, 7.30pm THE recent fire at Grenfell Tower in London shocked the nation, and resulted in a huge outpouring of support for the victims. But it has also led to anger, as people have asked why the devastating blaze spread so quickly, as well as fears that such a tragedy could happen again.
Tonight looks at how the fire has brought to light safety concerns about cladding used to cover our high-rise buildings.
It’s already been reported that combustible materials have been used in other tower blocks, but this documentary sets out to discover the extent of the problem and asks what can be done to ensure that the inhabitants can once again feel safe in their own homes.
THE CRYSTAL MAZE: CELEBRITY SPECIAL Friday, Channel 4, 9pm
NEW Maze master Richard Ayoade guides another team of intrepid celebrities through the epic game show. This week’s quintet hoping to win in aid of Stand Up To Cancer are Joel Dommett, Jermaine Jenas, Adil Ray and Tamara Wall, led by team captain Rylan Clark-Neale.
There are four fantastical zones: Aztec, Medieval, Industrial and Futuristic, and in each zone the team must tackle Physical, Skill, Mystery and Mental challenges in a bid to win crystals.
Each of these gives the team five seconds in the iconic Crystal Dome where they hope to collect enough gold tokens to win prizes.
