ALDIN GRANGE LAKES 07901 538587 / DH7 7AR Anglers have been catching as many as 20 fish in a session with others in the high teens. CdC, Black Hopper, Shuttlecoc­ks, Beetles and Klinkhamme­rs have been the best flies. Late evening rises have been prolific with lots of surface action with dries and emergers. Anglers have had great sport stalking fish close in to the bank. CHATTON TROUT FISHERY 01668 215226 / NE66 5RF There is another “All Nighter” tomorrow and any fishing permit can be purchased through the night. The last one attracted many keen anglers and its popularity paved the way for a re-run. Plenty of double-figure trout came to the net this week. Graham Stephenson from Embleton returned a 14lb rainbow caught on a Lime Green Buzzer. John Taylor returned a 15lb rainbow caught on a Buzzer while Peter Robinson returned a 10lb rainbow. Alan Robinson returned a 14lb rainbow. DERWENT RESERVOIR 01207 255250 / DH8 9TT 139 anglers landed 383 trout to 3lb. Paul Bradley from Shotley Bridge caught 12 rainbows and several coarse fish on the fly from the Meadow to Millshield­s. E Mosey took his bag limit. Bait anglers did well from the Oak Tree to the Dam Wall. Bob Stewart from Ferryhill took a fine 9lb 4oz rainbow on Powerbait Mice Tails. Top flies were: Olive Nomad, Cats Whisker, White Zonker and Soldier Muddler. Various Powerbaits did well for the bait rods. Fly anglers did well using roving tactics on the North Shore to Millshield­s. FONTBURN RESERVOIR 01669 621368/ NE61 4PL 82 anglers caught 198 trout to 5lb 2oz in wet and windy conditions. The Lumsdons from Cramlingto­n fished and landed eight fish between them. Eight-year-old Morgan stole the show catching three fine rainbows. David Muir and his brother David landed 22 trout between them. Paul Maddison took the fish of the week at 5lb 2oz on Powerbait. Hawthorn Fly, Dawson’s Olive and Cats Whisker were top flies. Pink Powerbait Eggs, and Neon Blue Paste were best baits along with Spinners. The North and South Shore Bays were the hotspots. Five more tagged fish were stocked this week. GRASSHOLME RESERVOIR 01833 641121 / DL12 0PW 126 anglers caught 359 trout in a week when trout slumped into the depths and then slipped back to the shallower areas as the weather improved. Ronnie Jackson, a visitor from Morecambe, landed eight fine trout including the best of the week at 5lb 8oz. Several doubles were stocked. Gordon Winn, Paul Davies, G Ferguson and Jeff Walsh all took limit bags and returned further trout. Dawson’s Olive, Cats Whisker and Black Fritz were the top flies. Best baits were White Mice Tails, worm and spinners. HIGHAM LAKES 01661 860032 / NE20 0DH Plenty doubles came to the net this week and most rods catching fish over 7lb. J Barnes from Widdringto­n returned 14 trout including doubles of 12lb and 14lb caught on Diawl Bachs. Anthony Chambers returned a brown trout of 16lb 3oz on a Black Damsel. Dry flies are still working well with Black Hoppers, Sedges the top flies. The fishery is open late on Wed, Fri and Sat offering options for fishing the late evening rises that can be so prolific. HURY RESERVOIR 01833 641121 / DL12 9UP Anglers averaged 4.2 trout per visit in a good week despite poor weather conditions. J Wood caught and returned 19 trout for his visit. Edward Murray from Castleside bagged up as did Malcolm Gowland from Weardale. Many of the anglers fished on catch and release tickets. As the weather settled small Black Dries, Hoppers, Daddies and various Fritz patterns did well. Roving tactics proved to be effective covering more areas of the reservoir. KIELDER WATER 01434 251000 / NE48 1BT 102 rods caught 243 trout to 5lb 7oz in a week of high winds. Keith Watson landed two fine rainbows of 3lb on worm at Tower Knowe. Paul Lamb caught a 5lb 7oz rainbow on a Mepps at the mouth of the Lewisburn. Michael Sinkinson took a fine limit bag for 16lb 8oz on worm. Top flies were: Orange Fritz, Black Hopper, Black Midge and Muddlers. Powerbait, worm and sweetcorn were the top baits. Top boat areas were: Bull Crag, Needs Hill and Whickhope. Best bank areas were: Gordon’s Walls, Matthews Linn and Whickhope. SWEETHOPE LOUGHS 01830 540349 / NE19 2PN Darren Howie caught 16 on Shipman’s, Hoppers and Bibio fishing both loughs. James Carr brought 19 to the boat on the Great Lough using Damsels. This weekend the British Float Tubing Associatio­n are holding a competitio­n. Anglers averaged just under five fish per visit. Fly patterns were mainly in the imitative range with surface activity the mainstay. Top flies were: Hoppers, Hare’s Ear, Cormorant, Sedgehog, Olive Emerger, Montana, Bibio, Buzzers, Damsel, Muddler, PTN, Damsel and Black Spider.
