Out with a bang

-

THERE can be nothing more thrilling or ridiculous than the finale of a buddy cop show pulled straight out of the 80s.

So if you like adrenalinefuelled car chases, explosions, fights, near-death experiences and an obligatory race against time, you certainly should not miss this.

Of course the plot becomes more insane as the episode goes on, but the twists and turns are so good that you won’t care.

Riggs (Clayne Crawford) has been mourning the loss of his pregnant wife throughout this series – we saw the devastating scenes in episode one as she was killed in a car crash.

Ever since, Riggs has had a death wish, drinking himself into a stupor, taking stupid risks, and enduring flashbacks to a happier time.

But we all gasped when Riggs recently made a shocking discovery about Miranda’s death after being told: “It wasn’t an accident. I think Gideon killed her.”

Gideon is the evil cartel hitman, currently being transferred to prison by a couple of US marshals.

One marshal mocks: “Take a good look out that window, drink it in, might be the last time you see sky for the next couple of decades.”

Which of course is TV code for: this prisoner is about to be conveniently broken out by a couple of cronies. But expect the unexpected, all is not as it seems.

Meanwhile, Riggs continues on his mission to go back to the cartel for answers.

While Murtaugh (Damon Wayans) plays his usual role – man caught between being a good cop and partner and loving husband and dad.

Needless to say, there is plenty of pace and more buddy sentiment than you can wave a box of Kleenex at.

Luckily a second series is already in the pipeline.
