BEST OF THE REST
THRONECAST: WAR ROOM Sky Atlantic, 9pm
IT has been said many times before, and we’ll say it again – winter is coming. The wait is almost over for the long-awaited premiere of season seven of Game of Thrones.
And so, of course, there are conspiracy theories to discuss and rumours to pontificate before the big event on Monday.
Thrones fan (well who isn’t?) Sue Perkins has the great honour of setting up this war room – in a disused chapel for extra effect.
Here, she and some over excited celebs can discuss the great many important matters at hand in this special edition show.
Furnishing the space appropriately with house flags, a fire pit, and a huge handmade table in the shape of Westeros, Sue is joined by superfans Al Murray, Lauren Laverne and Jonathan Ross.
Who do they think are the main players as the Great War looms on the horizon? What are their predictions for the new series? And who do they think will be left standing in the battle for Westeros?
Huddle up and join the debate.
JOANNA LUMLEY’S INDIA ITV, 9pm
ALWAYS cheerful and upbeat, there are several difficult moments for Joanna in tonight’s instalment of her jaunt around India.
In Mumbai she has to fight her fear of heights when she visits the 56th floor of the World One Tower – currently under construction and due to be the world’s tallest residential block.
And 80 miles inland at the Ellora Caves, one of the largest rock cut temple complexes in the world, Joanna encounters a sheer drop.
“Even leaning over makes me terrified,” she says.
But it’s her exploration of the caste system in India, and the Dallit community (formerly known as the ‘untouchables’) that stops Joanna in her tracks.
She visits the home of a Dallit family who lost their son to a violent act of discrimination when three attackers covered him in diesel and kerosene and burnt him to death.
Joanna connects with the family as they show her pictures of their son, but is visibly shocked and emotional. “It’s just unbearable,” she says. “This has no place in the modern world.”
