Seaside chalets provide day trip rooms with view

ICONIC BEACH HUTS WITHIN EASY REACH OF ATTRACTIONS

QUINTESSENTIALLY British, these brightly coloured beach huts are proving a hit with tourists.

The 20 little chalets on the coast of Blyth in Northumberland combine the nostalgia of seaside holidays in the 1950s with an idyllic family break.

The huts – managed by Active Northumberland – come with a kettle, two deck chairs and a terraced area at the back.

And the Dave Stephens Centre is close by for visitors to use the public toilets and external showers.

In summer, a day’s rent is £25 with a £5 deposit, making it ideal for those enjoying the beach who also want to have a little bit of shade throughout the day.

The huts can also be rented on a nine-month lease anytime between September and May for £500.

The Active Northumberland website says: “With the best views on the seaside, you’ll look across golden sands and glistening sea, watching surfers, canoeists, walkers and sea anglers enjoy this popular spot on Northumberland’s striking coast.

“No trip to the beach is complete without fish and chips and you’ll be close to one of the best-loved in Blyth.

“This prime location also has a large play area, coastal walks and cycle paths nearby, as well as free parking.”

The chalets were built as part of the multimillionpound regeneration of Blyth, which saw the creation of a plaza, performance amphitheatre, adventure play area and additional car parking.
