Bomar are bowled over by success

BOMARSUND moved back to the summit after beating visitors Ulgham by eight wickets.

Bowling trio David Seccombe (3-22), Adam Gardiner (3-29) and Matthew Crawford (3-38) helped to dismiss Ulgham for 145.

Colin Tait offered some resistance, top-scoring with 34.

Stephen Thain hit a rapid 51 before being run out and lost Adam McTaggart for 29, bowled by David Loxham.

Colin Thornton finished unbeaten on 42 as Bomarsund comfortabl­y reached 147-2 from 25 overs.

Backworth Seconds lost top spot after losing at home to Warenford by 57 runs.

Visiting openers Brian Thompson and Daniel Thompson contribute­d 70 and 66 respective­ly as Warenford finished their 40 overs on 207-5.

The seconds started well in their run chase, reaching 102-2, but then slumped.

Change bowlers Kevin Thompson (5-34) and Tony Potts (3-21) combined to bowl out their hosts for 150 – and they now drop to fourth.

Whitley Bay moved into second place, three points off leaders Bomarsund, after they triumphed against bottom side Kirkley by 59 runs.

Chris Dunn top-scored with 49 as the hosts totalled 155-8.

Robbie Burns hit 51 – which included five sixes – but Kirkley were bowled out for only 96.
