Baggies ready to hand £30m Sissoko lifeline

-

FORMER Newcastle United midfielder Moussa Sissoko could be handed a Premier League lifeline – by West Bromwich Albion.

The 27-year-old left Newcastle for Tottenham Hotspur in a £30m deal on deadline day last summer but endured a disappointing first season in north London.

In fact, Spurs are reportedly ready to pay the Frenchman to leave this summer, both by accepting a significantly reduced transfer fee for the midfielder and by agreeing to pay part of his wages.

France boss Didier Deschamps has made it clear to Sissoko that he must play regular first-team football this season if he is to secure a spot in the squad for the 2018 World Cup, but the midfielder will not receive that at Spurs.

It is believed that Sissoko would prefer to remain in England if he does leave Spurs, although Ligue 1 big spenders Marseille are interested in signing him, and The Sun claims that West Brom will make a move for the midfielder.

The Baggies showed a tentative interest in Sissoko last summer but he made it clear that he wanted to move to a Champions League outfit.

As a result, he waited for Spurs to firm up their interest – yet whether he will re-evaluate his opinion on West Brom in order to stay in the Premier League this season remains to be seen.

Sissoko’s move to Tottenham last summer was supposed to move his career on to the next level, but instead he finds himself unwanted and with a tough decision to make as to where he heads next.

Interestingly, however, Mauricio Pochettino has stated publicly that Sissoko does have a Spurs future – despite being left out of the club’s pre-season tour to America.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, Pochettino said: “He’s training at the training ground. He’s a member of the squad.

“He’s in our plans for the season and he is for us a member of the squad.” Whether or not Sissoko (pictured) is in the Spurs squad come August 13, when United host the north London club in their Premier League opener, remains to be seen.
